The VSS112Q24.022P-000 smart camera is produced by B&R Automation within the VS Smart Sensors series. The device combines optics, lighting, and processing in a compact housing so it can execute on-machine vision tasks without an external controller. This arrangement keeps image capture, illumination control, and evaluation inside one enclosure, reducing the amount of auxiliary hardware needed at the inspection point. It belongs to B&R's integrated machine-vision product range and delivers inspection, identification, and positioning data directly to automation controllers on the factory floor.

Image acquisition is performed at a native resolution of 3.5 MP, and consecutive frames can be captured at up to 43 fps, allowing the sensor to keep pace with moderately fast conveyor speeds. Processing is handled by a Cortex A9 i.MX6 dual core system-on-chip, and the cores operate at 800 MHz to provide local image evaluation and communication functions. Because there are 2 logical cores, feature extraction and communication tasks can run in parallel. A 4.6 mm F3.5 lens in an S-mount provides a 37° field of view, while the glass front window carries a polarizing filter to suppress glare. Multicolored R/G/B/Lime illumination is supplied by internal LEDs and directed through a standard type-2 LED lens.

Working memory consists of 1 GB of DDR3 RAM backed by a 512 kB L2 cache, so intermediate image buffers and lookup tables stay resident during cycle execution. The integrated lighting array contains 16 LEDs (4 segments × 4), and segment control supports localized highlighting across the inspection area. The optical axis is fixed relative to the lens centerline, which helps keep the viewing geometry stable during repeated inspections. Preprocessing follows the standard variant profile, and only one active vision function can be enabled at a time. The unit is not compatible with UV emitters or type-1 LED lenses, and it is not suited for line-scan operation.
