The VSS112Q21.021P-000 is a smart vision sensor manufactured by B&R Automation and supplied within the VS Smart Sensors series. As a compact unit from the integrated machine vision product range, it combines imaging, illumination, and processing in one housing. This allows the sensor to inspect parts or guide machinery directly on the production line without an external PC.

Its CMOS imager records images at a native resolution of 1.3 MP, and the internal pipeline can sustain a throughput of 90 fps so fast-moving targets are captured without excessive motion blur. The optical path uses a lens with a 4.6 mm focal length in an S-mount, and this arrangement provides a diagonal field of view of 37° for short working distances inside machines. Glass with an anti-reflective coating protects the optics from airborne debris and reduces glare. The sensor includes integrated multispectral lighting with 16 LEDs (4 segments with 4 multicolored LEDs each), driven through an LED lens type 2 element to produce uniform red, green, blue, or lime illumination. One active vision function can be enabled per job, and the standard preprocessing profile prepares edge data or grayscale histograms before the detection algorithm starts. The sensor is not intended for line-scan applications.

Image analysis runs on a Cortex A9 i.MX6 dual core SoC. Its 2 symmetric cores operate at a clock speed of 800 MHz and share 512 kB of L2 cache for deterministic access to intermediate data. The board carries 1 GB of DDR3 RAM, allowing several regions of interest, calibration tables, and communication buffers to coexist during runtime. This computing platform supports the standard preprocessing profile and fits the Smart Sensor product group for integration into B&R Automation control networks through the provided vision function interface.
