The VSS112Q12.02BP-000 smart sensor is produced by B&R Automation as part of the VS Smart Sensors series. It belongs to the Integrated Machine Vision range and combines imaging, lighting, optics, and onboard processing in one housing. By executing one active vision function locally, it can handle inspection and positioning tasks without requiring an external PC.

The processor uses 2 cores running at 800 MHz to manage image evaluation at the device level. Shared resources include 512 kB of L2 cache and 1 GB of DDR3 RAM, which provide room for real-time preprocessing and stable response times. Edge-based operation also reduces network traffic, which helps coordinated machine sequences stay responsive. That local processing model helps the sensor send results instead of raw streams to the control network during normal machine operation on site.

The imaging system captures 1.3 MP through a lens with a 4.6 mm focal length and a horizontal viewing angle of 74°. Continuous acquisition up to 165 fps supports fast conveyors and other applications where short exposure intervals matter. Sixteen LEDs arranged in four multicolored segments provide illumination, and the unit is also suitable for line-sensor operation. An S-mount interface secures the optics, while the plastic front glass uses an anti-reflective coating to protect the optical path. This version cannot be ordered with IR LEDs or alternative type-1 lenses.
