The VSS112Q11.02BP-000 is a compact smart sensor manufactured by B&R Automation for the VS Smart Sensors series. It belongs to the Smart Sensor product group and the integrated machine vision range, combining imaging, illumination, and processing in one enclosure to perform a single active vision function on the machine. By integrating optics, lighting, and onboard processing, the unit handles inspection or presence verification tasks in automated lines without the need for an external industrial PC. This layout helps keep the vision system compact where space is limited around conveyors, stations, or guarding.

The sensor has a horizontal field of view of 74° and uses a fixed 4.6 mm F3.5 lens in the supplied S-mount. At full resolution, it streams images at 90 fps while capturing the native 1.3 MP frame size of 1280 × 1024. Imaging data are handled by an ARM Cortex-A9 i.MX6 processor clocked at 800 MHz, and the standard preprocessing version performs feature extraction before the vision algorithm runs. This model is not suitable for line-sensor operation, uses a type 1 wide-beam LED lens, and cannot be combined with infrared illumination or alternate type 1 optics. The combination of a fixed lens and onboard preprocessing supports stable image acquisition for repeatable machine-based inspection tasks.

To support image processing, the unit includes 1 GB of DDR3 RAM and 512 kB of shared L2 cache for temporary data handling. The processor has a core count of 2, which allows vision tasks to run in parallel with predictable timing during high-speed operation. Illumination comes from an array of 16 LEDs arranged in four quadrants, and each quadrant can emit R / G / B / Lime light to improve contrast on different surfaces. A plastic front window with an anti-reflective coating protects the optics from splash and glare. The housing remains the standard version used in this series.
