The VSS112F31.061P-000 is a vision device from B & R Automation’s VS Smart Sensors series, designed to add image processing to machines without a controller. In machine vision tasks, it captures images, analyzes them, and sends pass or fail results directly to PLCs. That approach streamlines inspection and alignment routines on production lines.
Computation is handled by a Cortex A9 i.MX6 dual core processor clocked at 800 MHz, and the two cores share a 512 kB L2 cache for image handling. The device also uses 1 GB of RAM to support one active vision function in the standard preprocessing variant. A sensor with 1.3 MP resolution streams images at 90 fps, giving moving parts enough sampling density for reliable sorting and inspection. Trigger, encoder, and result interfaces are integrated, reducing external hardware and keeping wiring simple.
Optics and illumination are combined in an S mount barrel that holds a 16 mm F4 lens. This setup yields a diagonal field of view of 23° with the supplied two thirds inch imager, which helps the sensor frame small targets clearly. Lighting comes from 16 LEDs arranged in four segments, and the front glass uses an anti reflective surface to reduce glare on shiny materials. It is intended for area based inspection rather than line sensor scanning.
