The VSS112F21.02DP-000 is a smart vision sensor manufactured by B&R Automation for the VS Smart Sensors series. As part of the Integrated Machine Vision range, it combines optics, lighting, and processing so inspection data can be evaluated locally and only the results are sent to the PLC. The device is designed to run one active vision function for assembly verification, code reading, or presence detection in compact machinery. Because image evaluation happens inside the unit, higher-level control hardware does not need to process full image streams. This supports fast decisions in applications where space is limited.

Processing is handled by a Cortex-A9 i.MX6 dual-core CPU operating at 800 MHz. The housing uses the standard variant for the series, and the unit has the standard preprocessing performance level. The processor uses a shared L2 cache of 512 kB and has access to 1 GB of RAM, which helps reduce memory delays during image evaluation. With 2 cores available, the sensor can capture 1.3 MP frames and still complete calculations before the next exposure. Up to 90 fps can be sustained for high-speed inspection when the application remains within the supported vision load. When the device runs a single active vision function, timing remains predictable from cycle to cycle. Line-scan capability is not available, so the sensor is not suited for line-sensor operation.

The optical path uses a 37° angle of view produced by a 4.6 mm focal-length lens mounted in an S-mount. The lens is an F3.5 1/1.8-inch unit and sits behind a plastic diffuser front glass that helps soften reflections on shiny parts. Illumination is provided by 16 LEDs arranged as four single-color segments, and these emit white light through an LED lens type 2 collimator across the visible spectrum. This model cannot be combined with IR LEDs or type 1 lenses, so the light output and beam pattern remain fixed. The diffuser front glass can help reduce glare on reflective surfaces. Peak coverage across the visible range supports contrast-based inspections while keeping setup straightforward.
