The VSS112321.062P-000 is a compact vision device from B&R Automation’s VS Smart Sensors series. It combines optics, illumination, and onboard processing in one housing. This smart sensor is designed to carry out a single inspection or alignment task directly on the production line, efficiently reducing the image-processing load placed on the main PLC.
A Cortex A9 i.MX6 dual core processor handles feature extraction, and it operates at 800 MHz. The two cores use 512 kB of L2 cache and access 1 GB of DDR3 RAM, which supports stable preprocessing during fast machine cycles. The platform can run one active vision function at up to 90 fps, allowing rapid reject decisions or pick-and-place verification without dropped frames.
The optical assembly includes a 16 mm lens with an F4 aperture in a 2/3-inch format. When paired with the CMOS imager, it provides a horizontal field of view of 37° for controlled inspection zones. Blue illumination from 16 LEDs is centered at 468 nm, and the front glass carries a polarizing filter to reduce glare on reflective surfaces.
The imager resolution is 1.3 MP, which supports clear evaluation of small features within a compact field. The sensor uses a standard type-2 LED lens, does not support line-scan operation, and should not be used with UV sources or type-1 optics.
