The VSS112002.000P-000 is a smart camera manufactured by B&R Automation for the VS Smart Sensors series. Part of the Smart Sensor product group and the integrated machine vision range, it is intended to perform localized image analysis so PLC bandwidth is not consumed by raw video. Installed on a production line, the device combines imaging and processing in one housing for presence detection, position checking, and code-reading tasks. This arrangement allows image-based decisions to be made close to the inspection point instead of sending full image data to a central controller.

An on-board Cortex A9 i.MX6 dual core processor running at 800 MHz drives the imaging pipeline, while 1 GB of RAM stores frame buffers and user parameters. The sensor streams images at up to 165 fps, and its pixel array provides a resolution of 1.3 MP, which supports high-speed conveyor inspection. This helps the camera evaluate moving parts quickly when short cycle times are required. The unit is supplied as the standard variant for preprocessing performance and overall configuration. Support for line sensors broadens its use in web-based production, and the housing comes without an LED lens and without a lens so external optics and illumination can be selected to match the application.

The remaining memory hierarchy includes a 512 kB L2 cache that reduces latency between the CPU and RAM during edge detection or barcode decoding. Mounting uses a C-mount thread, so the camera can accept interchangeable optics suited to the required focal length and aperture. At runtime, one active vision function may execute, which supports predictable timing during image evaluation. The optical head is supplied without LED lighting, and no protective front glass is fitted on this version, which avoids adding another refraction surface in front of the optics.
