The VSS112001.071P-000 smart sensor is produced by B&R Automation for the VS Smart Sensors series. It belongs to the Smart Sensor group and the machine vision range. Imaging optics, onboard processing, and network connectivity are combined in one S-mount enclosure, letting machine builders add inspection or code reading without an external industrial PC.

Vision computation is handled by a Cortex A9 i.MX6 dual core processor clocked at 800 MHz. The platform includes 1 GB of DDR3 RAM and a 512 kB L2 cache, which help buffer images and parameters before transfer to the FPGA in the preprocessing version. The mechanical interface uses an S-mount, which supports lenses for confined conveyor spaces. This model is the standard variant, and it is not intended for line-sensor applications.

The imaging path captures 1.3 MP images and streams up to 90 fps, so the sensor can evaluate fast-moving parts with less blur. The optical assembly includes a 25 mm focal length lens with an F4 2/3 inch profile, and the front glass has an antireflective coating to reduce flare under plant lighting. The unit is supplied without an LED lens and without LED lighting, so external strobes are required. One configurable digital output can trigger the lighting in sync with the shutter. Processing is limited to one active vision function at a time, which keeps cycle timing predictable.
