The VSS112001.042P-000 is a smart sensor camera manufactured by B&R Automation as part of the VS Smart Sensors series. It belongs to the Smart Sensor product group and the Integrated machine vision range, combining an image sensor, processor, and network interface in one enclosure. This layout allows image capture, evaluation, and communication to take place inside the same housing instead of requiring separate devices. By integrating the network interface with the vision hardware, the camera can send inspection results directly to the control system in distributed machine layouts. The device provides a single active vision function for inline inspection, identification, or measurement without requiring a separate industrial PC.

The sensor provides a resolution of 1.3 MP, which is the maximum pixel field available for each processed frame. It supports a frame rate of 90 fps, helping the system capture fast-moving parts with reduced motion blur. Vision processing runs on an 800 MHz processor based on a Cortex A9 i.MX6 dual-core architecture, and 1 GB of DDR3 RAM stores images and feature tables during analysis. The two processor cores share 512 kB of L2 cache, which supports local image handling before results are passed to the machine control. It is the standard preprocessing version for typical inspection tasks in packaging, assembly, and material-handling equipment.

The unit is supplied with an 8 mm focal-length lens in an S-mount barrel, allowing lens changes within the same mechanical footprint. Its protective window uses glass with a polarizing filter, which helps reduce glare from reflective workpieces before light reaches the sensor. Illumination must be provided externally because the housing comes without LED lighting, and the LED lens field is left empty. The lens assembly uses an F4 aperture on a 1/1.8-inch format. It is not intended for use with UV LEDs or type 1 LED lenses, and it is not suitable for line-sensor applications.
