The VSS112001.031P-000 is a smart vision sensor developed by B&R Automation within the VS Smart Sensors series. It belongs to the Smart Sensor product group and the integrated machine vision range, combining imaging, illumination control, and computing in a single enclosure for autonomous inspection tasks on production lines. Installed close to conveyors or assembly fixtures, it acquires images, runs one active vision function, and returns digital results directly to the control layer without requiring an external PC. This arrangement allows inspection to take place at the machine rather than through a separate processing system.

Its processing section is anchored by a 800 MHz Cortex A9 i.MX6 CPU with two symmetric cores. The architecture uses a Cortex A9 i.MX6 dual core design, supported by 512 kB of L2 cache for stable data handling and 1 GB of RAM for image buffers. This resource set supports the standard preprocessing level used for the series, and the dual-core layout helps image capture and evaluation run together during operation. At full throughput, the imager delivers 90 fps of monochrome or color data at its native 1.3 MP resolution, allowing the single vision tool to track object features on fast-moving machinery. Line-sensor operation is not supported, so the sensor uses area-based triggering.

Optical components are integrated as a fixed assembly that uses a 6 mm focal length lens that is factory-aligned in an S-mount interface. The lens is rated at F3.5 1/1.8" and is protected at the front by anti-reflective glass to help reduce stray reflections. Because the housing is supplied without LED lighting or an LED lens, external illumination must be provided when the application requires strobing or background suppression. The S-mount barrel supports compatible lenses while keeping the package compact. This setup gives the application flexibility when lighting conditions or target surfaces require a different external light source.
