The VSCXX3XXX.XXXP-000 smart camera is manufactured by B&R Automation and belongs to the VS Smart Sensors series. As part of the machine vision lineup, the device integrates optics, processing, and I/O inside a compact housing, allowing it to capture images, evaluate them, and forward decisions to controllers without an external PC. In automated assembly or packaging lines, the unit performs rule-based inspections, code reading, and position detection so that machines react to visual events within tight real-time tolerances. This integrated arrangement keeps image acquisition and evaluation close to the machine process.

The computing subsystem is anchored by a Cortex-A9 quad-core processor running at 800 MHz; the cores share a 1 MB L2 cache that helps sustain deterministic response. Volatile storage consists of 2 GB DDR3 RAM, while nonvolatile application space is provided by 2 GB eMMC NAND flash and a separate 4 MB NOR boot flash used during startup. With the onboard inference accelerator, preprocessing performance supports neural classification before the PLC cycle begins. Minimum vision cycle time is 400 µs, letting the sensor keep pace with fast conveyors and trigger multiple inspections during each machine interval. This processing layout supports image handling, startup functions, and fast decision output inside the same device.

Two configurable interfaces link the camera to external devices, and deterministic data exchange over POWERLINK makes it suitable for synchronous machine networks. The power feed arrives through an M12 8-pin Y-coded connector, and the digital output can source up to 500 mA to drive indicators or pneumatic valves directly. The camera can retain 10 images locally while it executes several vision functions at the same time, which reduces the need for constant image transfer during operation. Its compact housing measures 116 mm in width and weighs only 0.75 kg, so multiple units can be mounted in tight spaces without adding much load.
