The VSC523R25.05CP-000 smart camera is produced by B&R Automation within the VS Smart Sensors series. It combines optics, lighting, and onboard processing to acquire images and perform inspection tasks directly on the production line. This layout reduces the need for separate external imaging components in compact machine vision stations. The imaging head supports line-scan operation when required, and it is available as a deep-learning variant for pattern classification.

It captures images at 5.3 MP native resolution and sustains 43 fps through its CMOS imager, providing enough temporal density for presence detection or measurement at moderate conveyor speeds. With a 37° field of view produced by a 12 mm F4 2/3-inch lens mounted in the S-mount holder, the unit accommodates applications ranging from code reading to color verification. A plastic front window with a polarizing filter reduces glare from reflective targets, while LED lens type 2 keeps the illumination cone uniform. The polarizing filter is especially useful on glossy surfaces that would otherwise create reflections and reduce image contrast. These optical parameters are fed to a processing pipeline clocked at 800 MHz, which helps reduce latency between image acquisition and evaluation.

Computation runs on a Cortex-A9 i.MX6 quad-core package with 2 GB of DDR3 RAM and a 1 MB L2 cache, letting the device perform several vision functions simultaneously. The 4 physical cores are supported by an embedded inference accelerator that offloads convolutional workloads. For illumination, four segments house 16 LEDs, and the user can select R / B / IR / White output per segment to match surface characteristics. This makes it easier to adapt the light to different materials and surface finishes without changing the camera body. The design is not compatible with IR or UV emitters or with type-1 lenses, and the angle-locked S-mount helps keep optical alignment stable.
