The VSC523R24.041P-000 smart camera from B & R Automation belongs to the VS Smart Sensors series. It sits in the Integrated machine vision product range, enabling on-board inspection and guidance tasks in automated machinery. The unit combines optics, processing, memory, and multicolor lighting so that vision functions can run directly at the sensor and send results to the machine controller without relying on a separate external vision computer.

At its center, a Cortex-A9 i.MX6 processor handles image data at a clock frequency of 800 MHz. The quad-core architecture provides 4 cores and uses 1 MB of L2 cache for fast access to working data during image evaluation. A DDR3 memory bank supplies 2 GB of RAM so that several vision functions can run in parallel without long buffering delays. Hardware-based tensor operations are accelerated by the integrated inference accelerator, which supports the deep-learning version of this device. Captured scenes are delivered at the sensor’s native resolution of 3.5 MP, giving enough detail for classification, measurement, and code reading within a single image.

The optical stage uses an 8 mm F4 lens in an S-mount and produces a 37° field of view for short working distances. Illumination is provided by a segmented 16-LED array behind glass with an anti-reflective coating, and each segment can emit red, blue, infrared, or white light for contrast adjustment on different target surfaces. The lighting system uses an LED lens type 2 assembly to help shape the emitted light across the viewing area. Because the unit is not intended for line-sensor operation, rolling-shutter timing is used for standard area-image capture.
