The VSC523R12.031P-000 is a smart camera produced by B&R Automation within the VS Smart Sensors series. Belonging to the Integrated machine vision product range and the Smart Camera product group, it merges optics, lighting, and quad-core processing into a single device for industrial pick-and-place verification, measurement, and code reading. Supplied as the deep learning variant, it allows inference to run on board, enabling data-driven inspection routines on existing production lines without a separate vision computer.

At the core of the unit is a Cortex A9 i.MX6 quad core processor that operates at 800 MHz. The four symmetric cores permit parallel execution of multiple toolchains so the camera can perform several vision functions simultaneously without cycle overrun. A dedicated 1 MB L2 cache reduces memory latency between the CPU and buffered image data, while 2 GB of onboard DDR3 RAM holds high-resolution frames and classification models in real time. Preprocessing time is further shortened because the device includes an inference accelerator, allowing neural network layers to be evaluated before the data reaches the main CPU pipeline.

Optical components match the processing throughput, with the sensor capturing images at 1.3 MP and sustaining 165 fps. A 74° field of view is achieved when the factory-supplied 6 mm F3.5 1/1.8-inch lens is mounted in the standard S-mount holder, and the same focal length is also available as an interchangeable 6 mm lens for specialized setups. Uniform scene illumination is provided by a ring of 16 LEDs arranged in four multicolored segments, driven through an LED lens type 1 wide-beam optic to project selectable red, blue, IR, or white light through glass with an anti-reflective coating. The design is also suitable for line-scan applications and uses the preprocessing pipeline of the deep learning variant.
