The VSC523Q22.042P-000 smart camera is produced by B&R Automation as part of the VS Smart Sensors series. Classified in the Integrated Machine Vision product range, it combines an image sensor, multicolored illumination, optics, and an embedded processor in one enclosure. In industrial automation, this arrangement allows a production line to capture, analyze, and verify visual features without a separate PC, reducing latency and cabling while supporting real-time quality checks, code reading, and position guidance. This integrated layout is useful where machine space is limited and where decentralized inspection is preferred.

Processing is handled by a Cortex A9 i.MX6 quad-core CPU that runs at 800 MHz. The processor uses 4 symmetric cores, and 2 GB of DDR RAM buffers complete image sequences during burst acquisition, while a 1 MB L2 cache helps reduce external memory traffic. The global-shutter sensor records images at 1.3 MP and can deliver them at up to 165 fps, enabling sharp capture of fast-moving parts on high-speed conveyors. Support for line-sensor applications broadens use in continuous web inspection, and the deep-learning variant uses onboard neural network resources to classify complex features. UV LEDs and type 1 LED lenses cannot be combined with this model.

Optical and lighting elements are factory aligned. The supplied S-mount accepts lenses, and the default optic has a focal length of 8 mm with an F4 aperture on a 1/1.8-inch format, producing a field of view of 37° for general part sizing. Illumination is provided by 16 LEDs arranged in four segments, and each emitter can produce red, green, blue, or lime light through LED lens type 2. A glass window with an integrated polarizing filter reduces glare, and local preprocessing is supported by an inference accelerator, so only inspection results need to be forwarded to the line controller.
