B&R Automation’s VSC123R22.051P-000 belongs to the VS Smart Sensors series and is classified within the smart camera product group of the Integrated machine vision range. As a self-contained vision node, it executes inspection, identification, and guidance tasks directly on the production line without an external PC. The standard variant integrates optics, lighting, processing, and I/O in a single enclosure so that machine builders can embed image analysis in compact or distributed machines.

The camera’s computing section is built around a Cortex A9 i.MX6 quad core processor clocked at 800 MHz. The four cores and a 1 MB L2 cache handle parallel image pipelines, while an inference accelerator performs preprocessing for neural classifiers. A dedicated 2 GB of DDR3 RAM buffers high-resolution frames so that several vision functions can run simultaneously. The sensor captures images at 1.3 MP and can stream up to 165 fps, giving enough temporal resolution for fast pick-and-place or print verification. Available function blocks can use the line-sensor suitability flag to switch between area-scan and line-scan modes when needed.

A viewing angle of 37° pairs with the factory-installed 12 mm focal length lens, which has an F4 aperture and a 2/3-inch format, and it is mounted in an S-mount bayonet for quick focal swaps. The front window is glass with an anti-reflective coating to minimize ghosting under plant lighting. Scene lighting is delivered by 16 LEDs arranged in four multicolored segments, and the LED lens type 2 optic concentrates the selectable R / B / IR / White outputs onto the field of view. The compact housing supports installation in tight mounting points, and the segmented lighting helps maintain uniform exposure and clear edge contrast.
