The VSC123R21.041P-000 is a smart camera produced by B&R Automation for the VS Smart Sensors series. As part of the integrated machine vision range, this unit combines optics, lighting, processing, and I/O in one housing so it can perform inspection, position verification, and code reading directly on the machine without an external PC. Its onboard electronics and software are arranged to run several vision functions at the same time, giving OEMs a compact component for automated quality checks and guidance tasks. Because sensing and processing are integrated, the system can be installed with less external hardware and fewer interconnecting components.

This model captures images at a native resolution of 1.3 MP and streams them at up to 90 fps, allowing short exposure times while still covering fast conveyor speeds. Image analysis runs on a quad-core Cortex processor clocked at 800 MHz; the processor uses 4 cores that share access to 2 GB of RAM, so multiple algorithms and user tasks can be buffered in parallel without swapping. These processing resources drive the smart camera’s inference accelerator, so preprocessing such as edge extraction and classification is handled on the device before data reaches the PLC. Local evaluation also lets the unit send results and selected image data instead of relying on a separate industrial computer for every inspection step.

An S-mount holds an 8 mm, F4 1/1.8-inch lens that provides a diagonal field of view of 37°. Behind the optics, a 1 MB L2 cache reduces latency between the CPU and RAM during complex filter chains. Illumination is integrated through 16 LEDs arranged in four multicolored segments, and each segment can emit red, blue, infrared, or white light through a standard LED lens type 2 element. This lighting arrangement supports different surface finishes and contrast conditions when the machine must inspect mixed materials or printed marks. The front window is glass with an anti-reflective coating to minimize stray reflections, and the housing is supplied in the standard variant. Because the design is not suited for line-sensor operation, the camera is dedicated to area-based image acquisition.
