The VSC123822.042P-000 smart camera is produced by B & R Automation as part of the VS Smart Sensors series and serves as a self-contained vision node in industrial automation. It combines optics, embedded processing, and illumination in one housing so that feature inspection, robot guidance, and object counting can occur directly at the machine without a separate controller. This arrangement reduces cabling and response delay, which is useful on high-speed filling, packaging, and assembly stations that require deterministic image evaluation. Because image capture and analysis occur locally, the camera can react quickly to changing part position and pass only results to the higher-level control system.

An onboard processor runs at 800 MHz and works with 2 GB of RAM, allowing several vision functions to operate at the same time at up to 165 fps. The image sensor delivers 1.3 MP frames for inspection and measurement tasks, while a 1 MB L2 cache helps reduce memory access delays during preprocessing. The line-scan suitability flag supports web and print inspection where continuous image strips are required rather than isolated snapshots. A polarizing filter on the front glass suppresses glare from reflective parts, and the red lighting spectrum supports consistent contrast when the camera evaluates common monochrome targets.

The lighting system contains 16 LEDs arranged in four individually triggerable segments, which allows the illuminated area to be adapted to the inspection task. Their 632 nm peak wavelength works with an 8 mm focal length to illuminate targets viewed through an S-mount lens with a 37° field of view. Preprocessing throughput is boosted by inference accelerator hardware, helping the camera maintain cycle time when several measurement windows or analysis routines are active in the same job. The standard variant does not use UV emitters, and LED lens type 2 can be selected for the stated viewing angle. The camera also remains compatible with integrated machine vision libraries, so image tools can use the available quad-core processing resources without requiring an external GPU.
