B&R Automation created the VSC122T12.021P-000 for applications that require vision data without a separate control cabinet. This model is part of the VS Smart Sensors series and belongs to the Smart Camera product group within the integrated machine vision range. It combines optics, processing, memory, and lighting in one housing so it can capture images, analyze them, and send pass/fail or position information directly to a PLC or motion controller in industrial automation.

Its embedded computing section is built around a Cortex A9 i.MX6 processor that runs at 800 MHz. Paired with 2 GB of RAM, the device can keep multiple inspection tasks active while streaming images at up to 165 fps. The standard preprocessing pipeline can execute several vision functions at the same time, allowing edge detection, code reading, and measurement in parallel. It is also suitable for line-sensor applications, so the camera can process linear arrays as well as area frames. All algorithms run inside the device, which reduces bus traffic and helps limit latency in time-sensitive systems.

Optics and illumination are tuned for flexibility. A 74° diagonal angle of view is produced by the 4.6 mm, F3.5 1/1.8-inch lens secured in an S-mount holder, and that focal length supports inspections at short working distances while maintaining a native resolution of 1.3 MP. Image buffering is supported by an L2 cache of 1 MB, and the quad-processor setup provides 4 cores for image-processing tasks. The integrated lighting system uses 16 LEDs arranged in four multicolored segments, each driven through a type 1 wide-beam LED optic to project selectable red, green, UV, or blue light through front glass with an anti-reflective coating. This setup helps the camera inspect contrast-critical surfaces without external lamps.
