The VSC122R24.M51P-000 smart camera is produced by B & R Automation within the VS Smart Sensors series. It combines image acquisition, illumination, and onboard processing in one enclosure for direct installation on production lines, reducing the amount of separate vision hardware needed around the machine. Used as a self-contained vision node, it sends evaluated results to PLCs for tasks such as part orientation checks, dimensional gauging, presence inspection, and code verification without relying on an external PC or a standalone light source.

Inside the housing, a Cortex A9 i.MX6 quad core processor operates at 800 MHz. Its 4 cores work with 2 GB of DDR3 RAM and a 1 MB L2 cache to manage multiple vision functions at the same time, allowing image capture, evaluation, and result handling to take place locally. The sensor captures images at 3.5 MP resolution and can deliver them at 43 fps, which supports fast inspection sequences on moving parts or continuous material. A 37° field of view provides coverage for medium-sized targets without external optics. The preprocessing engine uses the baseline option, so functions such as edge detection, blob analysis, and barcode decoding run inside the unit. The camera does not support line-sensor operation, so it is intended for area-based imaging.

For close-range inspection, the camera uses a preinstalled 12 mm (macro) lens in an S-mount holder, which keeps the optical setup compact. Illumination comes from a 16-LED array arranged in four multicolored segments, and the diodes can emit R/B/IR/White light to suit different surface finishes and contrast conditions. Light passes through an LED lens type 2 optic and a glass front window with an anti-reflective coating to reduce stray reflections. This optical arrangement helps keep image framing consistent during repeated inspection tasks and supports stable image acquisition at short working distances.
