The VSC122R24.041P-000 smart camera is produced by B&R Automation within the VS Smart Sensors series. It is an integrated machine-vision component intended to execute image acquisition and onboard evaluation directly on production equipment, eliminating the need for an external industrial PC. By combining optics, illumination, and a multicore processor in one sealed body, the device performs inspection, guidance, and code-reading tasks that are common in automated assembly and packaging lines.

The onboard processor runs at 800 MHz, which allows vision algorithms to process pixel data and feature sets quickly. A continuous capture capability of 43 fps allows synchronous inspection of fast-moving parts on moderate-speed conveyors, while the optical field covers a 37° horizontal angle so that a single unit can monitor a broad area without mechanical scanning. Illumination comes from 16 LEDs (4 segments with 4 multicolored LEDs each), and segment control lets the application adjust light direction or color to heighten contrast on specific surfaces. Image buffers reside in 2 GB of DDR memory, giving adequate space for multiple frame queues, lookup tables, and temporary results when several vision functions run simultaneously. The camera uses a Cortex A9 i.MX6 quad core SoC and a 3.5 MP sensor to capture fine detail required for character verification or small-part position checks. A selectable lighting set of R / B / IR / White outputs allows the wavelength to be matched to material reflectivity without adding external strobes. The mechanical interface is an S-mount, allowing straightforward lens changes, and the supplied 8 mm F4 lens fills the sensor while preserving edge sharpness. Anti-reflective front glass minimizes ghosting, and an LED lens type 2 assembly standardizes beam spread so that the illuminated field remains uniform across the specified viewing angle.
