The VSC122R22.042P-000 smart camera is produced by B & R Automation and belongs to the VS Smart Sensors series. Classified in the Smart Camera product group within the integrated machine vision range, it combines optics, lighting, and processing for inline inspection, identification, and guidance tasks. By embedding the sensor, illumination, and quad-core processor in one enclosure, the unit simplifies installation on conveyors, pick-and-place heads, or assembly lines where compact vision capability is required. This integrated format also reduces the need for separate lighting and image-processing hardware near the inspection point.

The internal processing platform uses a Cortex A9 i.MX6 quad core CPU running at 800 MHz with a 1 MB L2 cache. Paired with 2 GB of RAM, this architecture can execute several vision functions at the same time, and the standard preprocessing pipeline removes the need for an external controller in many applications. All image buffers reside in DDR3 memory to keep response times deterministic during burst captures. The sensor’s native 1.3 MP imager streams at up to 165 fps, allowing high-speed inspections with reduced motion blur. Line-sensor suitability broadens the unit’s application range in systems that require fast image acquisition and compact mounting.

Optics and illumination are integrated into the housing for a compact inspection setup. A 37° horizontal angle is achieved through an S-mount holder and the supplied 8 mm focal length lens with an F4 stop over a 1/1.8-inch image circle. The front element is glass fitted with a polarizing filter to suppress specular reflections, while LED lens type 2 focuses light from the 16 LEDs (4 segments with 4 multicolored LEDs each). The array can emit R / B / IR / White wavelengths that are selectable per job, but the camera cannot be combined with UV LEDs or type 1 LED optics.
