The VSC122R21.042P-000 is a smart camera produced by B & R Automation in the VS Smart Sensors series and belongs to the Integrated machine vision product range. It combines image capture, onboard processing, and multicolor illumination in one housing to execute inspection and alignment tasks directly on the machine without an external PC. Vision libraries operate within this bandwidth to perform presence checks, code reading, and measurement without off-loading to a controller.

The camera uses a Cortex A9 i.MX6 quad-core processor clocked at 800 MHz, and the architecture gives it 4 simultaneous processing threads for parallel vision algorithms. A 1 MB L2 cache supports rapid data reuse, while 2 GB of DDR3 RAM handles frame buffering and feature extraction. The standard variant preprocessing pipeline lets the unit run several vision functions simultaneously and still maintain a throughput of 90 fps at a sensor resolution of 1.3 MP. This combination keeps the thermal load moderate and supports cabinet-free mounting near the machine.

Optically, the module ships with a focal length of 8 mm and an 8 mm F4 1/1.8" lens that yields a 37° field of view. The lens uses an S-mount, so optics can be exchanged without adapters. A front window made of glass with a polarizing filter suppresses glare, and LED lens type 2 focuses the integrated illumination. The ring light consists of 16 LEDs (four segments of four multicolored diodes), and each segment can emit R / B / IR / White light for contrast management across diverse surfaces. The unit is not suitable for line-scan applications, and it cannot be combined with UV emitters or a type 1 LED lens. This arrangement supports general-purpose inspections across varied surfaces.
