The smart camera VSC122Q24.05BP-000 is built by B&R Automation for the VS Smart Sensors series and belongs to the integrated machine vision product range. It combines sensing, illumination, and processing in one housing. This allows a PLC to receive pre-evaluated image data instead of raw pixel streams for inspection, identification, and alignment tasks on automated lines.

The optical package supplies 3.5 MP of imaging resolution at a capture rate of 43 fps, allowing moving parts to be analyzed without motion blur. A fixed 12 mm focal-length S-mount lens establishes a 37° field of view, and the lens uses an F4 2/3-inch format to support consistent depth of field. Plastic front glass with an anti-reflective coating reduces internal reflections that could saturate the sensor. Scene lighting is produced by 16 LEDs (4 segments with 4 multicolored LEDs each), and the emitters generate R / G / B / Lime bands so color channels can be balanced for the application. A type 2 LED optic sits over the diodes to collimate output, and this camera cannot be combined with IR illumination or a type 1 LED lens. It is not suitable for line-scan operation.

Image preprocessing is executed by a Cortex A9 i.MX6 quad core processor running at 800 MHz. The processor is paired with 2 GB of RAM and a 1 MB L2 cache, so several vision functions can run simultaneously without dropping frames. The four cores support the standard preprocessing performance profile used by this unit. Processing resources remain available for feature extraction even when the onboard LED controller modulates color and intensity. All computations occur inside the smart camera enclosure, which eliminates the need for an external PC and keeps mounting simple through its compact S-mount format.
