B&R Automation manufactures the VSC122Q22.031P-000 smart camera as part of the VS Smart Sensors series. Within the integrated machine vision range, it belongs to the Smart Camera group. The housing combines the image sensor, optics, lighting, and an embedded processor, allowing the unit to handle inline inspection, code reading, and position feedback without a separate vision computer. This integrated design reduces the amount of external hardware needed at the machine and keeps vision processing close to the inspection point.

A Cortex A9 i.MX6 quad-core CPU runs at 800 MHz, and the four cores share 1 MB of L2 cache so intermediate pixel data can move efficiently between processing stages. The processor works with 2 GB of DDR3 RAM, allowing multiple inspection pipelines to be buffered at the same time. This computing platform supports an acquisition rate of 165 fps at the native 1.3 MP resolution. The camera is supplied with a 6 mm F3.5 lens sized for a 1/1.8-inch sensor. That lens provides a 37° horizontal field of view, and the removable S-mount allows optics to be exchanged for different working distances. Local processing also reduces the amount of image data that must be transferred across the network for routine inspection tasks.

The illumination system uses 16 LEDs arranged in four equal segments, and each diode can emit R / G / B / Lime light through an LED lens type 2 assembly. This layout improves contrast on different surface types without requiring external light bars. A front window made of glass with anti-reflective coating reduces reflections from nearby machinery and helps keep captured images consistent on reflective parts. The camera is suitable for line-sensor applications and can perform image preconditioning before data is forwarded to the controller over the network.
