The VSC122Q21.041P-000 is a smart camera from the VS Smart Sensors series manufactured by B & R Automation. Classified within the Smart Camera product group, it belongs to the integrated machine vision range and combines optics, lighting, and processing in one enclosure. In automated inspection, identification, or positioning tasks, the device captures images, analyzes them onboard, and transmits the evaluated results to the machine controller, eliminating the need for a separate vision PC while reducing latency and wiring complexity. This integrated approach also helps the control system receive usable inspection results directly instead of processing raw image data elsewhere.
Image acquisition is performed at a resolution of 1.3 MP, and the sensor sustains a throughput of 90 fps, so high-speed conveyors can be monitored without motion blur. Internally, an i.MX6 architecture supplies an 800 MHz clock to a Cortex A9 i.MX6 quad core CPU supported by 2 GB RAM. This hardware executes preprocessing, measurement, and classification before fieldbus transfer, allowing image evaluation to occur inside the device. A 1 MB L2 cache reduces main-memory access, and four symmetric cores allow several vision functions to run at the same time. The unit uses the standard preprocessing performance variant, so image handling can remain consistent within fixed automation cycle times.
Optically, the camera ships with an 8 mm focal length lens with F4 aperture and a 1/1.8-inch format, installed through an S-mount. That lens provides a 37° horizontal field of view suitable for medium-range part recognition. Illumination comes from 16 LEDs arranged in four multicolored segments, and the integrated R/G/B/Lime lighting removes the need for external light bars in many applications. Built-in lighting also keeps the optical path compact and reduces the amount of extra hardware around the inspection point. An LED lens type 2 concentrates the emitted light, and the front glass carries an anti-reflective coating to improve contrast. Because no line sensor is required, area images are processed directly, and the housing uses the standard variant with a compact mount that simplifies mechanical integration.
