The VSC122Q14.03BP-000 smart camera is manufactured by B & R Automation as part of the VS Smart Sensors series. It supports integrated machine vision by combining optics, illumination, and onboard processing in one housing. The device acquires images, runs inspection algorithms, and sends evaluated results directly to a controller, so no external PC is required in automated pick-and-place, code-reading, or assembly-verification stations. Because image capture, lighting control, and analysis are handled inside the unit, installation remains simpler in cells where cabinet space is limited and response time matters.

An ARM-based processor clocked at 800 MHz runs four computing cores in a Cortex A9 i.MX6 quad core chip. The processor shares a 1 MB L2 cache with DDR3 memory, and 2 GB are available to vision tasks. The camera can execute several vision functions at the same time while sustaining 43 fps at the full 3.5 MP sensor resolution. A standard preprocessing pipeline prepares grayscale or color image data before feature extraction, which reduces network traffic and lowers the amount of image handling required from the PLC during routine inspection sequences. This arrangement supports inspection jobs that need fast pass/fail decisions, feature checks, or code evaluation while maintaining consistent throughput.

The optical block provides a horizontal angle of view of 74° when the fixed 6 mm focal-length lens with an F3.5 1/1.8ʺ format is installed in the S-mount holder. A plastic front window with an anti-reflective coating protects the optics, and a wide-beam cover distributes light from the internal array of 16 LEDs (4 segments with 4 multicolored LEDs each). Each segment can emit R / G / B / Lime light for adaptive illumination, allowing the camera to emphasize contrast differences across varied target surfaces. Segmented lighting also lets the application select colors that better separate labels, edges, or surface marks from the background. The unit is not intended for line-sensor applications.
