The VSC122Q12.031P-000 smart camera is manufactured by B&R Automation within the VS Smart Sensors series. It combines an image sensor, optics, lighting, and processing in a single housing so that automated stations can inspect parts, verify codes, or guide robots without an external PC. By performing multiple vision functions on board, the device reduces network traffic, simplifies machine layouts, and supports decentralized inspection in industrial automation.

The camera captures images at a maximum of 165 fps, allowing high-speed inspection on fast conveyors, while its 1.3 MP sensor provides enough detail for code reading, presence checks, and dimensional inspection. An internal processor clocked at 800 MHz works with 2 GB of DDR3 RAM to run filtering, segmentation, and measurement algorithms in real time. Four ARM cores divide the preprocessing workload across parallel tasks, which helps maintain responsive image handling during fast inspection cycles. The integrated optics use an F3.5 1/1.8-inch lens, and the S-mount interface allows other optics to be installed when a different field of view is needed. A wide-beam LED lens and RGB-lime emitters provide uniform illumination, and the device can also work with a line sensor for web inspection.

Illumination is supplied through 16 LEDs arranged as four multicolored segments, so specific wavelengths can be selected for different inspection tasks. The fixed optics have a 6 mm focal length that balances depth of field with magnification, and the glass front window helps reduce glare from glossy parts. A Cortex A9 i.MX6 processor with 1 MB L2 cache supports rapid context switching during image analysis. The integrated lighting and local processing allow the unit to inspect changing surfaces and part features without relying on an external computer for every image operation.
