B&R Automation manufactures the VSC122Q12.023P-000 smart camera as part of the VS Smart Sensors series. It falls under the Smart Camera product group in the Integrated machine vision range. The unit combines an image sensor, illumination, and an embedded processor so that inspection, measurement, and code reading tasks can be carried out directly at the machine level without an external PC.

The device is driven by a Cortex A9 i.MX6 quad core processor that runs at 800 MHz and provides four symmetric computing cores. A 1 MB L2 cache supports the cores, while 2 GB of onboard RAM buffers images and vision algorithms. This standard variant provides the preprocessing performance needed to execute several vision functions at the same time, and it maintains full sensor throughput at 165 fps with a native resolution of 1.3 MP. The unit accepts an S-mount optics interface and ships with a 4.6 mm, F3.5 1/1.8-inch lens, allowing quick lens changes when application needs vary. The camera is also suitable for line-sensor applications, which expands its use in web-based or continuous-motion processes.

An optical angle of 74° is achieved with the supplied 4.6 mm focal length, giving wide coverage for pick-and-place or presence-check tasks. Illumination is integrated through 16 LEDs arranged in four independently addressable segments, and each segment emits R / G / B / Lime light so contrast can be adjusted for different target surfaces. The LEDs sit behind a glass diffuser front window and use a type 1 wide-beam LED optic to soften hotspots and provide more even scene lighting. This combination allows the camera to perform pattern matching, blob analysis, and code verification in a compact housing that mounts close to the process.
