The VSC122F24.052P-000 smart camera is produced by B&R Automation within the VS Smart Sensors series. As an integrated vision sensor, it combines optics, illumination, and processing in a single housing for direct mounting on equipment. In automated production lines, it executes inspection, identification, and guidance tasks without requiring an external PC, which simplifies machine vision integration. By processing image-based tasks inside the housing, the camera can send usable inspection or position results directly to the control system.

Its internal processing is handled by a Cortex A9 i.MX6 quad core running at 800 MHz, supported by 2 GB RAM. This hardware executes preprocessing and several vision functions simultaneously so images are evaluated locally before results are transferred to the controller. The sensor streams images at 43 fps, enabling reliable inspection on medium-speed conveyors, and its imager delivers 3.5 MP resolution so small surface defects can be detected. Local evaluation also helps reduce the delay between image capture and machine response when sorting, verification, or presence detection must happen in real time.

The optical front end uses a 12 mm fixed-focus lens on an S-mount, producing a 37° horizontal field of view suitable for component widths encountered on pick-and-place stations. Illumination is integrated through 16 LEDs arranged in four individually switchable segments, and the white light with polarizing front glass helps reduce reflections across the visible spectrum. When algorithms require added buffering, the processor accesses a 1 MB L2 cache, which helps keep throughput stable while multiple inspections run concurrently. Segmented lighting can also be adjusted to emphasize edges, codes, or surface features without adding external light hardware.
