The VSC122F12.021P-000 smart camera is produced by B & R Automation as part of the VS Smart Sensors series. It belongs to the Smart Camera product group in the integrated machine vision range and combines a sensor, optics, lighting, and a multicore processor in one enclosure. The unit is deployed directly on machinery to perform in-line inspection, identification, and guidance tasks, feeding pass or fail results to the control system without the need for a separate industrial PC.

At the core of the device is a Cortex A9 i.MX6 quad-core processor clocked at 800 MHz. The four symmetric cores let the camera run several vision functions simultaneously while keeping deterministic cycle times. Image data are buffered in 2 GB of DDR3 RAM, and the global-shutter sensor acquires frames at 1.3 MP native resolution. A capture rate of 165 fps supports blur-free inspection of fast conveyors. The standard variant integrates preprocessing that executes thresholding, filtering, and blob analysis on board, conserving network bandwidth. This arrangement eliminates external frame grabbers and permits concurrent tool chains within the same housing.

The optical subsystem provides a diagonal field of view of 74°, delivered by a fixed 4.6 mm lens with an F3.5 aperture and a 1/1.8-inch format, held in an S-mount. A front window of glass with an anti-reflective coating preserves contrast across the visible spectrum, while a secondary 1 MB L2 cache accelerates pixel transfer between acquisitions. Uniform illumination is supplied by 16 LEDs split into four individually addressable segments, and the type 1 wide-beam lenses with white output support inspection of textured or glossy parts. The design remains compatible with line sensors, and full visible-band coverage supports color inspection.
