The VSC122D21.053P-000 vision sensor belongs to the VS Smart Sensors series from B&R Automation. Designed for integrated machine vision, it combines image acquisition, onboard processing, and I/O signaling so automated machinery can verify parts, guide actuators, or read codes without an external computer. This arrangement lets the sensor evaluate images locally and send results directly to the surrounding control system. It is intended for embedded inspection tasks where space is limited and fast decisions must be made close to the machine process.

Processing is handled by a Cortex A9 i.MX6 quad-core CPU clocked at 800 MHz, allowing several vision functions to run at the same time. The 4 cores share 1 MB of L2 cache that helps reduce memory stalls, while 2 GB of RAM stores 1.3 MP images and intermediate results. At 90 fps, the sensor supports real-time inspection on high-speed conveyors. The optical path uses a 12 mm focal length lens with a 37° field of view, which helps keep nearby targets within the frame. A front window with a glass diffuser spreads light uniformly across the scene, and the preprocessing subsystem uses the standard configuration to balance throughput and thermal load while still permitting multiple tasks. The lens is a 12 mm F4 design for 2/3-inch formats, and line-sensor modes are not available on this model.

Integrated illumination simplifies installation. A ring of 16 LEDs is divided into four segments behind LED lens type 2, and each segment can be driven independently. Because the lighting is IR (Infrared) with a peak wavelength of 856 nm, it can improve contrast on many surfaces without adding visible light to the scene. Segmented control also allows the application to emphasize specific edges or markings within the image. The optics attach via an S-mount, providing access to a wide range of compact lenses for different working distances.
