The VSC122004.03BP-000 is a smart camera produced by B&R Automation and belongs to the VS Smart Sensors series. It integrates imaging, processing, and communication functions in one enclosure, so a separate vision controller is not required on the machine. Within an automation cell, the device captures images, evaluates predefined inspection routines, and forwards pass/fail results directly to the PLC, making it suitable for discrete part verification, pick-and-place guidance, and similar inline quality tasks.

An onboard processor running at 800 MHz serves as the computational core of the camera. The processor is a Cortex A9 i.MX6 system-on-chip with 4 cores, so multiple vision algorithms can run at the same time without blocking one another. Working memory is sized at 2 GB, giving adequate buffer space for image frames, preprocessing data, and runtime variables. A dedicated 1 MB L2 cache sits between the cores and external RAM to reduce access latency when the same code or pixel blocks are read repeatedly. This combination gives the camera enough local resources for image buffering, preprocessing, and routine execution during inspection tasks.

The sensor outputs images at a native resolution of 3.5 MP, which permits detailed feature extraction over large fields of view. At full resolution, it maintains a throughput of 43 fps, supporting production lines where objects pass the inspection window in rapid succession. Optics are attached through an S-mount, and the supplied 6 mm lens with an F3.5 aperture covers sensors up to 1/1.8 in. The housing is supplied without LED lighting, so external strobes are required when short exposure times are needed. The plastic front glass has an anti-reflective coating to reduce glare, and this version is not intended for use with IR or type 1 LED lenses.
