B&R Automation manufactures the VSC122001.000P-000 smart camera as part of its VS Smart Sensors series. The device belongs to the Integrated machine vision product range and is intended for direct mounting on production lines where space is limited. By combining image acquisition and processing hardware in one enclosure, it removes the need for a separate vision controller and simplifies cabling. In automated assembly, packaging, and quality inspection stations, the camera supplies position, presence, and code-reading feedback to PLCs in real time.

The internal processing platform uses a Cortex A9 i.MX6 quad-core SoC that runs at 800 MHz. An on-chip cache of 1 MB shortens memory access during the execution of multiple vision algorithms. With 4 cores available for processing, the unit can classify objects, measure dimensions, and decode 1D or 2D codes at the same time. Image data are buffered in 2 GB of DDR3 RAM, allowing several frames to be held for temporal analysis without overruns. A sensor interface supports acquisition at up to 90 fps, helping the camera keep pace with high-speed conveyors while maintaining exposure control and minimizing motion blur.

Optically, the sensor delivers a native resolution of 1.3 MP, which balances field-of-view coverage with data throughput for edge and blob analysis. The housing provides a C-mount thread, allowing the use of different focal lengths, apertures, and filters. No lens or LED lighting is installed at the factory, and the front window is omitted for this mounting style. The camera is supplied in the Standard variant, which provides mid-range preprocessing performance while keeping thermal load within passive cooling limits. Line-sensor operation is not supported, but the camera can still handle typical area-scan guidance, inspection, and identification tasks in packaging or electronics assembly cells.
