Product Description:
B & R Automation is a leading manufacturer of industrial automation equipment. One of their widely used controller module is 2DI400.6. This controller is from the System 2010 Controllers series. The module offers precise motion control feature.
The 2DI400.6 controller expects signals from devices that operate around 24 volts DC and go beyond 30V could damage the input circuits. The module internal resistance of the input is 4 kΩ which is relevant for understanding current draw from sensors. The controller recognizes voltage less than 5 volts as off and greater than 15 volts as ON and in between these ranges it is called as intermediate and should be avoided. The module takes a maximum of 12 ms to respond to a change in input state as 10 ms is fairly standard, but not suitable for high speed signals. This controller draws a maximum of 6 watts power which is important for sizing power supplies. The module comes with 32 digital input signals that are organized in 8 logical blocks possibly for simplified wiring or diagnostics. It is featured with flexible wiring and PNP and NPN can be used as source and sink sensors respectively.
The 2DI400.6 controller changes state inputs with 5 µsec delay which is much faster than normal inputs (10 ms) and can be used to detect very quick transitions. It also has 4 counter inputs that are used for high speed counting such as counting pulses from an encoder or flow meter. These counter inputs have the 100 k hertz of max frequency and 16 bit resolution that count up to 65,535 which is crucial for motion control and RPM measurement, etc.
Frequently Asked Questions about 2DI400.6:
Q: How does the 4 kΩ input resistance help in sensor circuit design?
A: The 4 kΩ resistance helps in current calculation when choosing pull-up or pull-down resistors. It ensures compatibility with various sensor output currents.
Q: Why is the 5 µs input delay important for high-speed detection?
A: The 5 µs delay enables the 2DI400.6 to detect rapid changes in input state. This is essential for applications like encoder pulse recognition.
Q: How do the logical input blocks simplify system integration?
A: The 8 logical blocks organize 32 inputs into manageable groups. This improves diagnostics and simplifies wiring in modular or segmented systems.
Q: Why does the 2DI400.6 controller support both PNP and NPN configurations?
A: This dual support provides flexibility for sourcing or sinking input designs. It allows compatibility with a wide range of sensors and field devices.
Q: What is the significance of 16-bit resolution in counter inputs on 2DI400.6?
A: The 16-bit resolution allows precise counting up to 65,535 pulses. This is essential for accurate RPM, length, or position tracking in automation systems.
