The B & R Automation 2DI400.6 belongs to the System 2010 Controllers series and has a total of 32 change-of-state inputs divided into 8 input groups. It offers a nominal input voltage of 24 VDC and a maximum of 30 VDC, with counter inputs operating up to 100 kHz at a 16-bit resolution. The module features group-to-group and input-to-pcc isolation via optocouplers and consumes 6 watts of power.
Internal Product Review
The 2DI400.6 is a B & R Automation digital input controller with 32 total inputs and sink-or-source wiring. Change-of-state performance is especially impressive with 8 change-of-state inputs and a 5 µsec delay. A 24 VDC nominal input rating and optocoupler isolation make the module an excellent choice for stable industrial signal acquisition.

Product Description:
The 2DI400.6 digital input module is produced by B & R Automation for the System 2010 Controllers series. It occupies a single slot in the backplane and provides discrete signal acquisition so the controller CPU can monitor sensors, switches, or proximity devices on a machine. By translating field-level voltages into logic-level states, the unit allows the host system to react to events within microseconds. This rapid response supports coordinated motion, safety interlocks, and high-speed packaging lines where the timely detection of state changes is important.
Reaction time is governed by a change-of-state delay of 5 microseconds, meaning a new logic level is available to the CPU almost immediately after an input transition. Four hardware counters accept pulse trains up to 100 kHz, and each counter has a 16-bit resolution, allowing accurate position or flow calculations without additional counting hardware. The module is powered from the backplane at a nominal field voltage of 24 VDC and draws only 6 W, minimizing cabinet heat and power-supply loading. Eight dedicated change-of-state inputs and four counter channels share common terminals. Optocoupler isolation separates the field wiring from the processor circuits, helping prevent ground loops and reducing the transfer of electrical noise into the controller.
The card handles a total of 32 digital inputs that can be wired for sinking or sourcing operation, with the channels organized into eight groups of four. The field voltage may rise as high as 30 VDC without damaging the interface. Contact bounce is filtered by a switching delay of 10 milliseconds, keeping the scan table free of spurious state changes caused by mechanical contacts. Optocouplers provide group-to-group isolation as well as isolation between the inputs and the programmable computer controller, so noise affecting one group does not propagate to another. Physical dimensions of 285 × 40 × 185 mm match the standard form factor for System 2010 racks. This compact format permits dense installation alongside compatible input/output, motion-control, and communication modules while preserving an orderly rack arrangement.
