Product Description:
The 2PS740.9 is a power supply module produced by B & R Automation for the System 2010 Controllers series. It converts wide-range AC mains power into stabilized low-voltage power for processor boards, field I/O, and signal relays inside a control cabinet. By providing conditioned power and an integrated switching relay, the device allows the entire controller stack to operate from a single protected source rather than from separate external supplies. Its slim housing fits directly on the system backplane, simplifying installation in machine-mounted or panel-mounted industrial environments where space and cable routing are restricted.
The enclosure measures 285 × 40 × 185 mm, so it occupies one narrow slot while still providing adequate surface area for convection cooling. The acceptable input range extends from 90 VAC to 270 VAC, with current draw capped at 1.1 A and an operating frequency range from 47 Hz to 63 Hz. A slow-blow fuse rated at 1.6 A and 250 V protects the primary side against prolonged overloads, while its melting curve accommodates normal inrush current. The half-value duration is limited to 1.3 ms during a half-cycle. This protection allows the supply to withstand brief surges without nuisance trips while disconnecting the circuit during sustained faults. Internal suppression components shunt input transients up to 2.5 kV, helping prevent overstress of downstream rectifier stages.
The secondary stage delivers 100 W of regulated output through a nominal 28 V rail for CPU logic, auxiliary sensors, or pilot valves. Surge resistance is enhanced by internal components rated for an overvoltage peak of 750 V, helping prevent conducted spikes from motor starters or contactors from reaching sensitive electronics. A normally open relay contact inside the module supports resistive loads up to 2 A, enabling direct power sequencing of peripheral devices without external contactors. The relay withstands a 2.5 kV transient between its coil and contacts, and the protective network that guards the AC input also limits the half-value duration.
