The 2DS101.60-1 is a CPU and I/O module produced by B & R Automation for the System 2010 Controllers series. It forms the central processing block in small to medium-scale machine control systems, coordinating discrete inputs, high-speed counting, and synchronized pulse outputs for motion or process tasks. Installed on a 24 VDC supply with a local backplane, the unit executes user programs, processes encoder feedback, and controls field devices within automated production lines. Its combination of processing and input/output functions reduces the number of separate modules required for compact control applications.
The instruction execution time is 0.8 µs, supporting responsive control of time-sensitive machine operations. The module accepts 16 optically isolated digital inputs, each with an input resistance of 4.4 kΩ and a maximum input frequency of 100 kHz. A set of 32 transistor digital outputs provides switching for connected devices, and each channel supports a maximum output frequency of 100 kHz. Every output channel can carry up to 0.5 A for compatible control loads. Application variables are stored in 256 KByte of SRAM, while a 384-byte dual-port RAM allows the primary CPU and a coprocessor to exchange data. Three differential inputs and three differential outputs support connections to incremental encoders or analog converters. The integrated encoder power source can supply up to 120 mA and includes current limiting for protection.
The counter block supports a 25 kHz maximum counting frequency on each differential channel, allowing the controller to process rapid pulse sequences. Latch circuitry captures time-stamped signal edges at the same operating rate for precise event tracking. For absolute position devices, the synchronous serial interface accepts data widths of up to 16 bits. Its hardware supports a 100 kHz maximum clock rate without requiring an additional interface module. The housing measures 285 × 80 × 185 mm, allowing the module to fit standard 19-inch subracks while leaving room for adjacent power supplies. The low-voltage control connection also simplifies installation in machine panels that already distribute direct-current power.
