Product Description:
The 2DI725.6 module is a digital input card from B&R Automation that belongs to the System 2010 Controllers series. It connects field switches operating at line voltage to the backplane bus, allowing the controller to monitor each circuit and respond to changes in machine states. By accepting discrete 120/230 VAC signals, the module provides an interface between high-voltage plant wiring and the low-voltage logic used by industrial automation equipment. Its input design accommodates common industrial switching devices connected to alternating-current power circuits.
The card recognizes an off condition when the line voltage falls below 40 VAC and the return current remains under 15 mA. An on condition is accepted when the line voltage rises above 79 VAC and at least 2 mA reaches the input optocoupler. It supports 32 individually isolated input channels, allowing one module to supervise numerous sensors without additional expansion hardware. The nominal input rating of 120/230 VAC is compatible with common single-phase power systems in North American and European installations. A reinforced isolation barrier rated at 2500 VAC separates the field side from the bus and protects the processor from hazardous transients.
The controller rack supplies 4 W to the module, while the external terminals add another 7 W for status indication and input conditioning. Each input changes state within a 50 ms interval, which helps filter contact bounce from mechanical switches. Eight isolated groups limit fault propagation between input clusters, while 500 VAC of channel-to-channel isolation permits mixed wiring without crosstalk. The inputs tolerate peaks of up to 264 VAC, accommodating overvoltage conditions on lightly regulated power systems. Operation remains synchronized with a line frequency of 50/60 Hz. A green LED for every input and a single red terminal LED provide immediate visual diagnostics during operation. These indicators allow input activity and terminal faults to be checked directly at the module without disconnecting field wiring.
