Product Description:
B & R Automation manufactures the 7EX47050 controller, a System 2003 Controllers series CPU carrier that links field devices to a central PLC. The unit occupies a rack slot and furnishes two independent CAN channels so distributed drives, sensors, and operator panels can share deterministic bus traffic. Within an automation cell, it serves as the communication and power interface that forwards control signals to up to eight local I/O modules while maintaining galvanic isolation between field wiring and internal electronics.
The controller accepts an input voltage of 18 to 30 VDC, centered on its nominal supply of 24 VDC from the system power bus. At full load, it draws 20.0 W while delivering up to 14.5 W of regulated power to the attached I/O slices, allowing sensors or valve terminals to be energized without a separate feed. Both CAN interfaces support a maximum transfer rate of 500 kBit/s and a total segment length of 1000 m, so large installations can be spanned without repeaters when cable quality is suitable. Physical wiring is simplified by a 9-pin D-sub socket that forms the I/O bus backbone, while IF1 uses a 9-pin D-sub plug and IF2 uses a matching socket to ease daisy-chain routing. The design includes interface isolation so disturbances on the field side do not propagate into the controller backplane, and two logical module slots per side permit expansion up to a maximum of eight.
The carrier is intended for cabinet installation with an enclosure rated to IP20, so energized parts must remain behind a protective door. Reliable operation is specified from 0 to +60°C, allowing placement near machinery without additional climate control, and storage is permissible from -25 to +70°C for transport or spare inventory. Within those limits, heat is removed by convection so data exchange on the two CAN channels remains stable. The System 2003 mechanical format uses keyed guides, ensuring each module slot aligns correctly with the 9-pin bus connector across the frame.
