Product Description:

The 7EX290.50-1 is an expansion controller from B&R Automation that belongs to the System 2003 Controllers series. Installed in a rack beside CPU and power supply modules, it extends field wiring to the X2X real-time network so that distributed sensors and actuators can be integrated without additional backplane hardware. By acting strictly as a slave on the link, it accepts configuration from the host CPU and passes process data between the higher-level controller and the connected I/O slices used in industrial automation cells.

This module runs on a control voltage of 24 VDC supplied through the rack power rail, and it registers on the network as an X2X Link Slave. A housing width of 20 mm keeps the overall cabinet footprint small, while the enclosure carries an IP20 rating suited for protected electrical panels. Internal electronics draw only 5.0 W, reducing thermal load and aiding convection cooling. Fieldbus signals reach the board through a 9-pin DSUB socket that forms the I/O bus interface and locks in place with threaded posts to help prevent vibration-induced disconnection.

The board can source up to 3.2 W of output power for downstream sensor excitation, and its firmware allows mapping of up to 4 logical slots that the host PLC can address individually. Two of those positions may be reserved as 2 analog slots when differential measurement cards are inserted. A single X2X interface handles deterministic communication, and galvanic I/O-to-bus isolation is included so ground loops from field devices do not propagate onto the link. The IF1 front connector is a 12-pin multipoint plug that groups auxiliary rails, and installation is completed by screwing the housing to the module rack. Operational status is shown locally by a tri-color LED that flashes diagnostic codes for voltage, communication, and configuration states.
