Product Description:
The 7EX270.50-1 is a compact controller module produced by B&R Automation within the System 2003 Controllers series. Designed as a node on a CAN-based remote I/O rack, it coordinates local signal preprocessing and forwards data to higher-level PLCs. In industrial automation, the unit extends the fieldbus to sensor and actuator clusters, reducing cabinet wiring while preserving deterministic timing. This local handling can also reduce traffic at the main controller by concentrating field-level signals at the remote station before transfer.
The module accepts an input supply of 24 VDC and draws up to 5.0 W, so rack power can be allocated without oversizing the control supply. As a CAN I/O slave with a single bus interface, it sends process data at rates up to 500 kBit/s, while arbitration and synchronization are handled by the host master. The unit provides 2 analog expansion positions and 4 logical slots, allowing mixed-signal or relay modules to be added without external cabling. A single CAN transceiver is brought out on the 9-pin D-sub socket that forms the I/O bus interface, and the status LED shows activity, error, and address states. That layout allows analog and discrete functions to share one station when cabinet space is limited. Diagnostic frames can also pass through the network to supervisory software.
I/O power for the rack is distributed through the backplane, and the controller itself can supply up to 4.0 W to connected expansion cards. The housing is 20 mm wide and mounts with the series rack screw arrangement, which helps keep module spacing consistent on dense panels. Field signals enter through a front-mounted 12-pin multipoint connector, and the enclosure has an IP20 rating for use inside clean, unpressurized cabinets. Because power is shared across the rack, connected modules can be supported without separate front-mounted power wiring at each position. The front-facing connection layout also keeps signal access on the cabinet side of the rack.
