B & R Automation builds the 7DO722.7 as part of its System 2003 Controllers series. The unit is a digital output module that uses relay contacts to switch external loads under PLC control, allowing field devices to be energized or de-energized directly from the backplane of a System 2003 rack. By providing dry contacts instead of transistor outputs, the card isolates the controller from mains circuits and supports mixed AC or DC wiring commonly found in machinery, conveyors, and process skids.
The board provides 8 isolated channels, and each channel uses normally open relay contacts so the load circuit remains open until commanded by the CPU. Nominal excitation levels are rated at 240 VAC / 24 VDC, which covers most industrial solenoids, lamps, and small motor starters. Per-point current handling reaches 2.5 A, giving adequate headroom for inductive inrush while staying within the relay’s thermal limits. Internal module consumption is capped at 1.4 W, so the card imposes minimal load on the system power supply and cabinet heat load. Manufacturer data lists a maximum actuation delay of 10 ms, which suits medium-speed sequencing tasks.
Total switching capacity is constrained by relay design. For AC loads the ceiling is 625 VA, while for DC circuits it is 75 W at 30 VDC. Absolute insulation limits are 264 VAC / 125 VDC, while relay-to-relay spacing withstands up to 460 VAC if adjacent channels carry different potentials. The enclosure is rated IP20, which is intended for installation inside a grounded cabinet and protects against finger contact. Operation is permitted from 0 °C to +60 °C in a horizontal orientation, while vertical mounting is derated to 50 °C; storage extends from -25 °C to +70 °C. A 3.15 A time-lag fuse is fitted for each output so that short circuits can clear locally without tripping upstream branch protection.
