Product Description:

The 7DO435.7 is a digital I/O module manufactured by B&R Automation for the System 2003 Controllers series. Installed on the system backplane, it gives the CPU eight discrete inputs and eight discrete outputs so that sensors, switches, lamps, and small actuators can be handled without separate wiring islands. In typical machine-control layouts, the module translates field-level voltages to logic levels and supplies protected power-side switching, allowing the controller to execute interlocks and sequence steps within an industrial process. This arrangement supports compact control cabinets where direct connection of field devices is preferred.

On the input side, the board provides 8 input channels that follow a sink configuration, tying field return to the local ground. A logic LOW is accepted when the terminal voltage is less than 5 V, and a logic HIGH registers once the line exceeds 15 V; this wide band helps minimize false transitions caused by electrical noise. After a change of state, the controller sees the updated level within 1 ms, which is adequate for safety contacts and operator commands. The carrier can supply up to 8 A to the card, while each output transistor is restricted to 2 A, so external fusing should be applied when driving solenoids or filament lamps that draw high inrush current.

The electronics dissipate only 0.5 W, keeping cabinet temperature rise low during normal operation. Designed around a nominal bus of 24 VDC, the circuitry remains functional anywhere between the 18 V and 30 V limits of the power rail. Eight source-switched outputs are handled by protected FET stages, and at their rated 2 A they display a residual voltage of 1 V, leaving most of the supply available to the load. Resistive devices can be toggled up to 100 Hz, enabling basic pulse-width modulation for heater strips or dimming applications without overstressing the semiconductors.
