Product Description:
The 7DO139.70 is an eight-channel digital output module produced by B&R Automation for its System 2003 Controllers series. Installed on a remote I/O rack, this module switches 24 V field devices such as solenoid valves, contactors, or indicator lamps, extending the host PLC's ability to control external actuators in an industrial automation cell. Its role is to translate controller commands into discrete switching actions for machine devices that need reliable on and off operation during automatic sequences. Because the module handles discrete loads rather than analog signals, it is suited to applications in which connected devices are either energized or de-energized.
Each of the eight output points is rated for a maximum load current of 0.5 A, and the aggregate load through the front connector is limited to 4.0 A. The output stage uses a high-side, low-side, or push-pull driver so the module can support different field wiring methods without additional interface hardware. Output status is updated in parallel across all 8 outputs, giving deterministic response when multiple loads must change state at the same time. This arrangement is useful when several actuators must switch together without staggered timing between channels. External 24 V logic power supplies the switching transistors, and under nominal conditions the module draws 1.8 W from the field bus.
The backplane feed for internal electronics requires only 0.25 W, which helps limit internal power demand and heat rise. The module has an IP20 rating, so it is finger-safe but still intended for installation inside an enclosure. Signal integrity toward the CPU is supported by channel-to-PLC isolation, while neighboring channels do not have isolation from one another. A separate externally supplied sensor voltage keeps the module from adding that demand to the system power rail. Protective features include short-circuit protection and a separate thermal cutoff that disables an output if junction temperature rises too high, helping prevent damage during overloads or wiring faults.
