Product Description:
The 7DI435.7 is a digital input module engineered by B & R Automation for the System 2003 Controllers series. Within an automation rack, it converts field-level discrete sensor states into logic-level signals that the central CPU can process, supporting machine sequencing, interlock supervision, and alarm capture. It occupies a single slot next to the CPU and ties 24 VDC field wiring to the controller bus, forming the interface between photo-eyes, limit switches, or push buttons and the high-speed program scan that governs motion, safety, and diagnostic tasks across the plant.
Electrically, the module is designed for a nominal control rail of 24 VDC, and any channel registers a logic high once the sensed line exceeds the >15 V threshold and returns to low when it falls below the <5 V limit. The accepted span extends down to a minimum start-up voltage of 18 VDC and survives excursions up to the 30 VDC absolute maximum. Each of the eight points is wired as a sink or source input, so the module can match PNP or NPN devices without external adapters. Reaction time is tight because the input circuitry settles in ≤1 ms, keeping fast sensors in step with the PLC scan. There are 8 discrete channels in total, and because they share a common reference, individual channel isolation is not provided. Backplane isolation helps prevent disturbances from reaching the PLC.
From a layout and energy standpoint, the card uses a Single Width housing, so it occupies only one rack position and simplifies cabinet planning. Internal electronics draw just 0.2 W, a low dissipation level that supports tight module spacing without forced ventilation. Environmental protection corresponds to the IP20 rating, meaning the terminals are touch-safe but not sealed against dust, so installation inside a closed control enclosure is required. Its compact format leaves adjacent rack positions available for additional analog or motion cards when the control system is expanded.
