The 7DI135.70 is an I/O module produced by B&R Automation for the System 2003 Controllers series. Installed on the system backplane, it handles fast counting tasks and discrete signal exchange between field devices and the PLC. By combining pulse evaluation, event timing, and a transistor output in one slot, the unit saves panel space and simplifies wiring inside industrial automation cells.
The module’s incremental encoder channel records position data with a 32-bit counter that can track pulses up to 50 kHz. Separate hardware captures machine events with a 16-bit register driven by a 100 kHz input clock, so time-critical edges are not lost when the CPU is busy. Four digital inputs accept wiring from proximity switches or photo sensors, and each input uses a sink topology; debounced logic helps maintain clean counts across all four channels. Encoder and event inputs share the same front connector and expect square signals from external sensors, while power for those sensors is brought in through an external supply rail.
For actuator control, the module provides one sourcing transistor that switches loads up to 0.5 A; the output follows the PLC task cycle and defaults to high impedance on watchdog timeout. Both the input section and the output transistor operate from a common 24 VDC field supply, keeping wiring uniform. Electrical domains are galvanically separated so PLC backplane logic is isolated from field potentials.
