Product Description:

B & R Automation's 7CX404.50-1 is a modular I/O and communication module within the System 2003 Controllers series. Designed for distributed machine control, the unit integrates digital sensing lines and a fieldbus port so that PLCs in the System 2003 backplane can gather real-time data from production sensors and actuators. By bridging 24 VDC field signals to a CAN network, the device simplifies wiring on conveyor sections, packaging stations, and other compact automation cells. This arrangement also lets control hardware read input states near the machine instead of routing every signal conductor back to a central cabinet.

The module devotes a single CAN interface to bus traffic, and this port is protected by an electrically isolated CAN interface so ground loops between remote panels are avoided. Sixteen optically scanned lines provide 16 digital inputs, and each channel accepts sensors wired with a sink input circuit that references the field negative potential. A single 24 VDC input voltage serves as both the field excitation and the module's supply rail, aligning with common safety extra-low-voltage practices in European and North American control cabinets. Internal rail contacts pass this low-voltage potential to the logic core, which helps the input section and communication hardware operate from the same control supply.

The module uses the CAN interface type needed for protocol compatibility with higher-level System 2003 CPUs and third-party drives. The unit is network capable, so it can publish input states cyclically or on change of state, depending on master configuration. Field wiring is completed through replaceable plug-in connectors: heavy-duty sensors connect to the keyed TB718 terminal block, while the bus supply and auxiliary lines use the compact TB712 terminal block. These detachable headers preserve panel space and allow the module to be connected or removed without separate breakout boards.
