By interpreting compiled application code and exchanging data with field devices, the module orchestrates sequencing, interlocking, and motion tasks required in industrial automation cells.
Execution speed is indicated by an instruction time of 0.5 µs, allowing arithmetic and logic operations to complete rapidly inside a user task that can be scheduled at a minimum period of 1 ms. Network throughput is balanced between a CAN interface that transmits process data at 500 kBit/s and a diagnostic RS-232 port that streams status messages at 57.6 kBit/s. The power stage accepts a nominal control supply of 24 VDC, and the design tolerates input excursions within an 18 to 30 VDC window to maintain operation during brownouts. One insert slot allows attachment of a specialized I/O carrier, and a dedicated PCMCIA slot supports removable media.
